With Helicopter Stories, many things can happen all at once on a whole-class level, sparking creativity and engaging everyone in individual learning and development journeys like this:
Charlotte conjures a beautiful, elegant princess from her imagination and scribes it into a unique story. She confidently acts it out while other children watch, enthralled by the creativity on display in the classroom.
Amelia is inspired by the performance, sparking a “wow” moment. She’s learned something new from observing and listening to Charlotte, including a word Amelia wants to use and explore further in her story.
While Charlotte performs her princess tale, Mrs. Palmer spots Harry’s reaction. She recognises how Harry is demonstrating a newfound confidence and understanding of Charlotte’s story, specifically the vocabulary she is using and mimicking her movements. This stands out to Mrs. Palmer because it usually takes Harry longer to apply instructions to action in a less interactive activity — but he’s really going for it now!
Throughout this online course, MakeBelieve Arts reflects on the power of Helicopter Stories and the impact it has on children aged 2 – 7. Incorporating video footage of children engaged in Helicopter Stories, we share our experiences and anecdotes on this incredible approach.

Ratings and Reviews
I am thoroughly excited to begin helicopter stories, the training was just super and covered all bases. I loved that inclusive practise was thought carefully about, enabling preverbal children and those with educational needs to share their creatively and voices. Thankyou Trisha and Isla for sharing this lovely opportunity with us practitioners, and the children that we work with with!
The training is really engaging and well-structured. It is really clear without being patronising and it is so easy to go straight in and put into practise everything you learn. There are so many really lovely anecdotes and 'light-bulb moments'. I have only been running helicopter stories for a short time with my class but they absolutely love it!
Honestly, I really enjoyed this course, i felt every question was answered and the content was exactly what the course stated. I really enjoyed getting my teeth into Helicopter Stories, I had an insight into HS in a school setting before and saw the results working in front of me. Now with 2-4 year old, still imagination is welcomed within the nursery. Thank you
The course content is broken into small, but rich chapters, all of which contain a video plus tasks and materials. To be honest: I love the videos. Trisha is a wonderful story teller herself and an avid advocate for her cause. The possibility to access any part of the course at any time for a year allows to use it to ones own needs. (Well understandable also for non native speakers.)
I am loving this course and enjoying putting it into practice. It is wonderful to see the children so engaged in Helicopter Stories and not wanting to stop. They are even starting to ask to do a story now! They carry on acting out stories from looking at the pictures in books all by themselves. The only problem seems to be trying to convince other staff of the benefits and making time for it!
